Lunatique was created in 2006 by Donna Tarkett, in Pittsburgh PA. From its inception, the focus at Lunatique has been to create quality, eco-friendly, unique items from both new and recycled materials.
Before opening Lunatique, Donna had spent years creating things for her own children, herself and others. Lunatique was inspired by those creations and fulfilled her desire to reach a larger audience. From dolls to the original Little Loli dresses to soft-soled shoes, Lunatique has found more uses for recycled tshirts then seem possible. The artist scours thrift shoppes, searching for the perfect tshirts to be transformed into the items you see in the store. Much care is taken in the combination of fabrics and in designing the clothing. Little Loli dresses are a Lunatique original, with the pattern and design being straight from the artist’s imagination. Little girls all over Pittsburgh are sporting these unique and funky dresses, made from recycled tshirts. Currently, the artist is working on a brand new webstore for Lunatique and is really excited to be using 100% Green Webhosting, with Taproot Hosting based in Portland, Oregon, for this site; one more way that Lunatique is doing its part to be ethical and conscientious. The new online store will be opening in Spring/Summer 2010 (www.lunatiqueonline.com).
Donna Tarkett is a mother of 4 children, whom she homeschools, and enjoys life in Pittsburgh with her partner, kids, and animals. Lunatique is her artistic outlet, and she is passionate about the work she does. You never know what you’ll find in this eclectic and unique shop…..but you can be sure that it will be fun, friendly, and worth every visit!
