I think of my paper cut art as expressive and whimsical silhouettes. I strive to create a personality in each animal or person I cut out. Sometimes these figures are playful, clumsy, aloof, loving, kind, or intensely focused on a task at hand.  I am also attentive to the surroundings they are in and how they relate to each other.
I am currently working on an ambitious task of creating animals playing an instrument, each one representing a letter in the alphabet.¬† For example a dingo playing a didjeridoo, or a jack rabbit playing a jug.¬† I am finding some letters are harder to find animals or an instrument for : N,Y, and I. My most recent paper cut is called “Savanna Sunset” depicting an assortment of African animals around a watering hole.¬† I framed it so it can be hung right-side up or upside-down, it looks good either way.¬† I am looking forward to this summer season doing some local art/craft shows around the tri-state area.
