Nina Barbuto, Co-Founder
Co-founder of the I Made It! Market, Nina Marie Barbuto sees the market as “urban acupuncture,” with its micro-economy popping in and out of neighborhoods.
She completed the Mediascapes Master of Architecture Program at Southern California (M.Arch) and has a Bachelors of Architecture from Carnegie Mellon University (B.Arch). Her works include architecture, film, sound, and art installation often with the idea of recycling noise into the system or elevating the vernacular spectacular.
In 2004, Nina Barbuto was featured in the Concept Architecture show at Future Tenant Gallery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for her Annex to the Carnegie Museum of Art (proposed). In 2006, her proposal for Albright-Knox Gallery was on display at the institution in Buffalo, New York. Nina Barbuto and Jenna Kappelt collaborated in the “Ta-Tas” show in 2006 at The Frame in Pittsburgh. Her Brascape was a feature installation at Inmo Gallery in Downtown Los Angeles in 2007. In 2008, her film, I Love You, Los Angeles was screened at SiteLA Gallery in Los Angeles. Brascape was featured at hiChristina Gallery in the Lower East Side, NYC in 2008. Her recycled cardboard furniture creation, the Habeas Lounge, was featured at the Brookfield Properties Gallery in 2009. August 2010, Nina produced Pittsburgh’s First Edition of the Disposable Film Festival at the Leslie Park Pool in Lawrenceville in Pittsburgh.
Currently, Nina’s entrepreneur ventures include Awesome Studio, a multimedia design think tank, and Awesome Gallery, a non-profit space to be and make art. Visit her blog at ninamariebarbuto.blogspot.com.
