During every summer, the small town of State College devotes a whole weekend in July to the arts. For Penn State students, this means gathering in State College for a few days out of the whole summer. For PSU alumni, it means reuniting with old college friends to reminisce of the college days. For everyone else, this means enjoying and discovering the arts Pennsylvania has to offer during the beautiful and warm summer days.
This year, ‘Arts Fest,’ as it is called, fell on the weekend of July the 14th, and ran until July 17th. The festival showcased over 300 artists, ranging from wood work, to jewelry, to photography and more. More than 120,000 people showed up to enjoy the art and musical performances being offered.
What makes Arts Fest even more appealing is that it attracts the whole family. Not only can adults enjoy the festival, however children get to take advantage of “Children and Youth Day,” which usually falls on the first day of the festival. During this crafty day, children get to do everything they love, like playing with animals, creating crafts of their own, getting their face painted, and even getting drenched with buckets of water at the new water feature.
So next summer when you need a break from your work schedule, or desire a fun weekend the whole family can enjoy, think about taking the short 2 hour road trip from Pittsburgh to State College in order to truly enjoy the art and summer weather Central Pennsylvania has to offer.
