Over the past three years, I Made It! has enjoyed assistance from a number of talented and energetic interns. We hope to help them succeed and are happy to share their stories with you in hopes that you might have an opportunity for them! Meet Hannah Browne who has stayed on in a volunteer capacity to continue her involvement as an I Made It! Market.

Tell us about yourself and share your ultimate dream job title.

If it involves typography, the pen tool, linear relationships and the pantone matching system, it would be my dream job.

What led you to intern for I Made It! Market?

I was looking for a creative way to keep my brain active, my graphic design skills in practice and to network with other local creatives.

What was your favorite project or experience during the internship and why did it excite/inspire you?

My favourite experience was watching the whole event unravel over the weekend. It excited me to see everything finally coming together and people buying locally/supporting the artists.

Just how crafty are you?

Being around people who live to craft inspires me to become a craftier person.

What is your favorite thing to do, activity or location in the ‘burgh?

The view when driving through the Fort Pitt Tunnel into the city will always take my breath away.

Meet Leigh Ann Reynolds who has stayed on in a volunteer capacity to continue her involvement with I Made It! Market.

Tell us about yourself and share your ultimate dream job title.

Because I was born and raised in PA, I can say that family and friends are my keystone. This makes me clever and honest – two qualities that I feel have molded me into the lady I am today.  But I wasn’t always so cool.

There are a handful of people who have helped me to realize my own potential and I strive to emulate them. Educators have an opportunity to not only teach the youth, but to shape them. I want to teach. I want to foster a classroom full of creative, confident, and kind kids. They’ll be so cool.

Dream Job Title: Teacher.

Minor Details:

I have a Bachelor’s degree in public relations from Westminster College and a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from California University of PA with an additional certification in Family and Consumer Sciences. I’ve been subbing for 2 ½ years (one of which was in Texas) and this year I started assistant coaching middle school girls’ volleyball. I love cooking and baking, traveling, camping, and crafting.

What led you to intern for I Made It! Market?

I saw the posting for interns on the IMI website. I figured it might be a good fit because I wanted to utilize my PR background and get involved with a community organization that celebrates local talent and creativity. I had a great time and am proud to still be a part of the team.

What was your favorite project or experience during the internship and why did it excite/inspire you?

I think I’m going to call it a tie between writing and meeting awesome people. I really enjoyed writing blog posts. It’s a great feeling to have people enjoy reading what I’ve written. It’s also been super to get to know the artists and the IMI team.

Just how crafty are you?

Well, my mom says, “You are Miss Craft! That should be your middle name!” So, just call me Leigh Ann – MissCraft – Reynolds. Although, MissCraft sounds like some sort of system error.

What is your favorite thing to do, activity or place in the ‘burgh?

I love to see a great band play.

I love to support our sports teams with a tailgate involving dips and cupcakes.

I like when the sun comes to visit from out of town so we can play outside.

Meet Nora Housler who has stayed on in a volunteer capacity to continue her involvement as an I Made It! Market. Nora and Hannah Browne were our winter 2011 interns.

Tell us about yourself and share your ultimate dream job title.

I am always thinking about food, while checking out type design in all possible places around me, while dreaming of my future life with Ryan Gosling. I am a fall graduate of The Art Institute of Pittsburgh in Graphic Design, and always looking for fun, creative projects I can do. I am currently working on a greeting card project.

What led you to intern for I Made It! Market?

I was looking for something right out of graduating that would put me in the path of creative, yet crafty and eco-friendly people to allow me to make connections that will lead to a career, not a ‘job’. I had been to events IMI! threw in the past, and I knew it’d be a good environment for me to get practice with the client/designer relationship aspect of graphic design.

What was your favorite project or experience during the internship and why did it excite/inspire you?

I had been a Dreamweaver & Flash user, and this internship opened I think both my and Hannah’s eyes to WordPress, so that really was a good experience for me and also luckily, pretty easy. We got used to it pretty quick, so that was nice. I also loved working on the Holiday Market poster, and the numerous steps to deciding what our final outcome should be. Everyone’s feedback was helpful and I loved Hannah’s illustrations.

Just how crafty are you?

I have been reusing items a lot these past few months. Painting over old paintings I’ve picked up at my local Goodwill or Salvo, collage picture frames, fall-themed garland, fall wreath, my roommate and I collaborated on this cute soap dispenser that she saw on Pinterest.  Sewing projects have been underway due to the recent sewing machine in my home. I especially cannot wait to hide away this winter and craft/sew.

What is your favorite thing to do, activity or place in the ‘burgh?

My favorite activity in Pittsburgh is tough. I’m going to be vague as to say, just hanging out with my friends no matter what the activity. I am lucky enough to be surrounded by a lot of creative people, whether it be any art form / sewing, photography, music, etc. It’s best to be friends with people with characteristics you want yourself, and have influential ideas from.
