Jean Skipper is a jewelry artist from Southern Pines, North Carolina, by way of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her work embodies her whimsical sentimental soul and her industrial blue collar heritage. “Save it! Maybe we can use it again.” echoed through generations on both sides of her family. These words shaped the person that she’s become, her creativity, and her obsession with found objects. Handstamped words and textures are also prominently featured in most everything that she creates.
Jean explains, “It’s empowering to create a new history for an item that’s been cast off. Perfection is overrated. I celebrate life’s imperfections. These hard-won battle scars are telltale signs of character, resilience, and survival. In my work and in my life they keep things interesting. ”
