Lost Marbles

While she’s worked with wire since she was a child, Pittsburgh-based artist Maria Richmond has been working professionally with wire since 1998. Largely self-taught, Maria often includes the unexpected twist or turn in her work. Doodling in wire the way many people do with a pen on paper, most of her work is rather organic in nature, sort of determining its own path to creation. Maria works primarily in copper but includes traditional jewelry  materials such as gemstones, glass and pearls as well as non-traditional materials such as found objects, vintage findings and industrial cast-offs. She gains great satisfaction from teaching classes locally at Zelda’s Bead Kit Company (http://zeldasbeadkits.com/) in Bridgeville, PA as well as at other venues in the U.S.
