I’ve always had a love of history, and since I grew up a block from the library in my small town my mother often jokes that I was raised by wild books, full of crazy ideas and dangerous information. I guess it comes as no surprise that I make chainmaille!

But it’s not all suits of armor (although I love making them). I mainly make jewelry, which is a lot easier to wear around than a full hauberk, and much more fashionable at the present moment. I like to use lots of color in my work, in the form of anodized aluminum, enameled copper or beads. I also enjoy using materials other than metal. Rings made from stone, shell, glass and crystal often find their way into my works, and in a multitude of different shapes. I like to say that if it’s a ring, it’s fair game.

My main inspirations are history and movies.  I like to watch movies while I work, and sometimes I’ll design pieces around a certain character or piece of soundtrack.  I also have a huge collection of history books, including a large pile of the coffee-table kind that are always full of amazing photos.  It’s so much fun to take something from 2000 years ago and modernize it in a new medium, as chainmaille wasn’t typically used for jewelry.

Very cute. I have a store in Gilbert, Minnesota. Do you do things for stores?
