Spinster Hoops
Spinster Hoops has been making hips happy since 2009 by creating original, handcrafted hoops as unique as each individual spinner.
Spinster Hoops was created somewhat unintentionally by Stefanie Moser. Stefanie is a hooping enthusiast who began constructing her hoops in 2008. She started hooping in her room while talking on the phone and reading books, but it wasn’t until 2009 that she began applying her artistic skill to decorate the hoops. Hours would pass as Stef became consumed with the joy of making. As she would take her hoops to the park to share and practice with, many would inquire about purchasing her hoops, which is thus how Spinster Hoops came to be. She chose the term “Spinster” for her business in an effort to playfully redeem a word that has a lot of negative connotations… that, and well, she also just really likes to spin. Stefanie moved to Pittsburgh in 2007 after obtaining her BA in Studio Art from Messiah College and now co-leads the Steel City Hoop Union that she and Erika Johnson founded together in an effort to build a hooping community in Pittsburgh. The group meets every Tuesday, rain or shine, at the Union Project (801 N. Negley) from 6:30-7:30pm. All hips are welcome!
